Education offer

Afb voorkant juliana grift

Juliana is a homework-free school and offers the following in the havo program.

Juliana 1059

Class 1 HAVO

A new step: from a year-8 pupil to a first-year secondary school student. A step that involves quite a lot. Think of homework, new classmates, lockers, timetables, and the list goes on. Pretty exciting, right?

To help our first-year students find their way at Portus Juliana HAVO, we organize a lot of activities with them during the introduction week. During this week, the students get to know their classmates, learn how to find their way around the school, and how to use their laptops. The afternoon program focuses on team building within the class. The students take part in workshops and a lesson program where they learn more about themselves and each other: both in the classroom and in the gym!

Bridge year subjects

In the first year of secondary school, students receive lessons in the following subjects:

  • Dutch
  • English
  • Spanish
  • History
  • Geography
  • Mathematics
  • Arithmetic
  • Biology
  • Technology
  • Arts & culture (music and drawing)
  • Physical education
  • Religious education

The school year is divided into four periods. At the end of each period, there is a test week. In addition to tests, there are also various excursions and activities for the students during that week. For example, think of a museum visit, sports days, taking first aid lessons, and various workshops. This way, we always end hard work with a fun activity.

The first year concludes with a fun three-day introductory camp (in May/June) and an end-of-year outing (in July).

Class 2 havo

After a year at Juliana, the students have now found their way around the school. During the introduction days, students get to know the school in a fun and active way. During these days, we also refresh digital skills and pay attention to school rules and class agreements.

Just like in the first year, a sporting activity in the gym is also on the program, where the classes compete against each other—always a great way to start the year with lots of fun and energy! After that, the first lessons begin, and the school year really gets underway.

In the second year, students receive a broad and challenging curriculum with the following subjects:

  • Dutch
  • English
  • Spanish
  • German
  • History
  • Geography
  • Mathematics
  • Arithmetic
  • Biology
  • Physics and Chemistry (nask)
  • Technology
  • Arts & Culture (music and drawing)
  • Physical Education
  • Religious Education

Just like in year 1, the school year is divided into four periods of about eight weeks each. Every period ends with a test week. In addition to tests, we also organize various fun and educational activities during this week, such as excursions and workshops. For example, think of a visit to Naturalis and Corpus, a citizenship project with a trip to the House of Representatives, and various inspiring workshops.

3rd year of senior general secondary education (havo)

The students will still take all subjects this year. After the introduction days, we will get started in earnest. During this school year, the students prepare for the transition to the upper years of havo. In doing so, they choose a profile in which they will eventually take their final exams. Each profile comes with a specific set of subjects. The choice for the profile and the corresponding set of subjects is made at the beginning of a new calendar year.
