Juliana is homework-free. This means that you complete all your homework at school under the supervision of teachers during homework hours. This works! Around 95% of our exam students have obtained their diploma in recent years.
We start every morning at 8:00 AM with the homework course. From 9:00 AM, you attend various lessons. At the end of the afternoon, you have another homework course. There, you begin the homework for the next day. If you don’t finish something, that’s not a problem. In the homework course the next morning, you can continue working on it. Your school day ends at 3:25 PM; after that, you can participate in the activities of the Extended Day Program.
As you can see above, you do and learn your homework at school. This means you are free at the end of the afternoon and have time for your sports and hobbies.
This means that at the end of the school day you have the opportunity to attend workshops, do extra sports, or, for example, learn how to cook. Think also of activities like drama, street art, or kickboxing. The Extended Day Program is not only educational, but also fun and enjoyable. All activities are free of charge.
In mavo 1 you will have lessons in the subjects Dutch, English, French, mathematics, biology, social studies, technology, art, music, religion, and physical education.
In havo 1 you will have lessons in the subjects Dutch, English, Spanish, mathematics, biology, history, geography, technology, art, music, religion, and physical education.
To register, you need the following school recommendation:
Mavo: vmbo-tl/gl. If you have a vmbo-k/g recommendation, consultation with the primary school is required first. If your recommendation includes LWOO, then your recommendation is vmbo-gl or vmbo-tl.
Havo: vmbo-tl/havo or a havo recommendation
Before the summer holidays, you will meet your mentor and your new class. In the first week of school, you will follow an introduction program in which you get to know the teachers, the other students, and find your way around the school. During this week, you will also make important agreements about how to interact with each other, so that everyone can be themselves.
At Juliana, we do not have free periods. If a lesson during the day is cancelled, either another teacher will take over the lesson or we will move the homework hour to that period.
At Portus Juliana, the phone policy is: phones are either at home or in the locker.
Every day you can choose from fresh sandwiches or tasty snacks that are no more expensive than in the supermarket.
We have a secure bicycle storage where you can safely park your bike.
Every year you visit a museum during Culture Day. You get to know new sports during Sports Orientation Day. In year 1 and year 4 we go on camp. Also take a look at the question about the Extended Day Program.
A laptop is provided by the school, so you don’t need to spend any money on that. You will also receive a planner, calculator, and a gym shirt from our school. You can choose your own book covers/cases, notebooks, and a pencil case with pens and pencils. At the introduction evening before the summer holidays, you will receive a list of exactly what you need to buy.
Of course. We really enjoy that! You can join us for a morning and experience what it’s like to be a student at Juliana. Read more about our taster mornings.
