Portus Juliana secondary school (mavo)
At Portus Juliana, your child receives education at havo or mavo level in a caring and pleasant learning environment. Our mavo is located at Talingstraat 6 in Rotterdam.
Mavo at Juliana
Small-scale, personal, and future-oriented!
At Juliana mavo, you can earn a vmbo diploma in the theoretical or mixed learning pathway. Our school is clear and personal: with around 500 students, we know each other well. Even before the summer holidays, you get to meet your classmates, your mentor, and the building. This way, you start the school year with confidence and quickly feel at home.
Do you like to be active and not sit still for too long? That’s absolutely fine! Our motto is Less sitting still, more doing. In the lessons, we practice a lot with varied assignments and teaching methods. In year 1, you also get four PE lessons and practical subjects such as art and technology. This way, you can use up your energy.
Get your diploma without (home)work?
Are you about to make the transition to secondary education? Exciting, but above all a great opportunity! At Juliana mavo, we help you take that step with confidence. You’ll meet new people, have lessons from different teachers in various classrooms, and... you do all your homework right at school. That way, you’ll have more time at home for sports, hobbies, and relaxation.
New building
At the end of the 2026-2027 school year, we will move to a beautiful new school building on Roerdomplaan. This allows us to maintain our small-scale approach and provide you with even better guidance in a safe, familiar learning environment.

Profiles and support
From year 3 onwards, you can choose between two profiles: economics & entrepreneurship and care & welfare.
Do you need extra support with learning? You are also very welcome at our school. In a meeting with our support coordinator, Mrs. de Dijker, we will look at how we can best guide you. We also have lwoo students who receive additional support.
Laptop and course materials
You do all your homework at our school, which is why we provide you with a laptop. The laptop stays at school and you use it during lessons and homework hours. During class, you don’t just work on your laptop; you also learn from textbooks.
Successful together
In order to obtain a diploma without (home)work, rules and agreements are very important. With these agreements and rules, we have maintained a pass rate of over 95% for years.
Tailor-made education
From the first year, you will receive extra lessons in Dutch and mathematics/arithmetic. This increases your chances of obtaining your diploma. In the lower grades, we challenge you during enrichment hours. For subjects that come easily to you, you can use some extra challenge. Do you find a subject difficult? Then you will receive extra help.
