Network blockade as of June 1
Dear parents/guardians,
At our school, the use of mobile phones during lessons is prohibited. For educational purposes in class, only student laptops are used. We are pleased to see that everyone is contributing to the compliance with these rules.
Our school agreements have a positive effect and lead to more calm and concentration during lessons. However, TikTok and Instagram remain attractive, and students are now viewing social media via their laptops. In addition, they also regularly play games on their laptops when they should actually be working on their lessons or study material.
Limited network blockade as of June 1
To promote concentration and the learning process, we have therefore decided to take an additional measure. SSO-ICT will implement a network blockade on June 1 for the following apps frequently used by students: Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, WhatsApp, Signal, Roblox, Spelletjes.nl, Fortnite, Twitch, and Discord. The participation council of the Portus school group has agreed to this measure.
With this measure, we believe we can create an environment in which students can better concentrate on their study material during lessons and self-study hours at school, and actively participate in the lessons.
These apps can still be used on personal mobile networks. The blockade will only apply via our wifi network.
